9/11 Shadow Boxes
Works in 2001

In this group of works, I tried to elaborate on the subject of space and time. The idea of inside- out with characters with stairs as a background. These characters are multiplied by their own shadows that may represent other people or different aspects of themselves or their timing doing something.

These small spaces create an intense atmosphere of lights, shadows and depth. I depicted the idea of time by creating an illusion of movement of the characters inside these boxes. They are individuals of all races who are searching for the truth, or their direction in this world. For example, one of them may walk straight up the stairs and find an easy-way out. Another may not find it so easy, and turns in circles. Other characters may only be following along, in order to avoid feeling lost or lonely.
